Women: God’s Secret Weapon: God’s Inspiring Message to Women of Power, Purpose and Destiny

The Lord gives the command; The women who proclaim the good tidings are a great host: Kings of armies flee, they flee. And she who remains at home will divide the spoil!” (Psalm 68:11-12 NASB)

The above verse from Psalm has a tremendous application for this hour. Women will be a great host proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ right here in America—from their own houses––thus, bringing in a harvest of souls.

Psalm 68:11-12 tells us there will be a battle that women will win. They will collect and divide the spoil among themselves when they have gathered together in their own homes or other meeting places.

Why does this verse emphasize women? [NIV and KJV translations use the word company, so do not fret men]. What is the battle? What is the spoil they so greatly desire from the fight? And, how are they going to get it?

Why Women and What Battle for Spoil?

Women, you are God's Secret Weapon: Psalm 68:11-12 tells us there will be a battle women will win. They will collect and divide the spoil among themselves when they are at home or gathered together.

Ed Silvoso and Frances Frangipane, plant good seed in the hearts of women through their writing. Silvoso, president of Harvest Evangelism, Inc., has four daughters and six granddaughters. He is qualified to write about women. He believes there has to be a rematch between the devil and the woman before Jesus’ return.

After all, the first deception was between the serpent and the woman Eve before the man was influenced. In his book, Women: God’s Secret Weapon: God’s Inspiring Message to Women of Power, Purpose and Destiny, he writes, “I call it a rematch because it will involve the original contenders: human beings and the devil himself. Just like their predecessor in the Garden, women will play a central role, except that this time, as God has predicted, Eve’s daughters will win” (Regal, 2001, Ventura, CA, P. 74-75).

Author and teacher, Francis Frangipane writes, “Yes, indeed, there is a battle; there still exists ‘enmity between (the serpent) and the woman’ (Gen.3:15). Satan especially hates you because it was your seed that bruised the serpent’s head. It is amazing to me that God chose to bring His Son into the world, not through the heavens nor even through a woman impregnated by man, but through a woman made pregnant by God! God Himself came to earth through the woman’s power to give birth!” (A Word to Women of God––You Were Created to Birth Breakthrough on the Earth,” accessed Sept. 10, 2007).

God chose a woman, Mary, to give birth to His Son, Jesus. More still, it was women who were among the first to proclaim the Good News of Jesus’ resurrection! And now, women who are faithful “Marys” are birthing battle plans to win souls and disciple them.

What Is the Spoil the Faithful ‘Mary-Women’ Desire?

women how to know if you have spoil

We are at war in a spiritual battle in America and our world like never before. The spoil from physical wars are lands, cities, gold, silver, and weapons. But Jesus says, “I advise you to buy from me gold refined by fire, that you may become rich . . . .” (Rev. 3:18 NASB).

The LORD’S gold is what a faithful “Mary” so greatly desires.
Allow me to illustrate what the “spoil of gold” include by telling you about only a few of the “Marys” I know. Their stories are divided by the specific blessings of El Shaddai––our One True Almighty God:

Increase of the Kingdom of God: Sarah M. requested prayer for her long-time friend. Sarah then gave her a copy of the workbook she was studying in a home Bible study. Her friend found Jesus not long afterward.

Sarah M. chose to lead the same Bible study in her mother Sharon’s home. She invited eight of her friends and relatives. During the study, Sarah’s sister-in-law led her neighbor to the Lord who then joined the study!

Deliverance from Bondage: Linnie M., who struggled with anxiety and bi-polar issues, drove all by herself to her first Bible study––in a home group setting. God miraculously answered her prayer by providing money for her son to pay court fees to avoid going back to prison. This prodigal son and his whole family returned to God and the Church family.

As Denise learned about God’s character by studying His Hebrew names, she discovered who she was––highly valued and loved. After looking for many years only to doctors and medicine to heal her panic attacks, depression, and severe digestive problems, she chose to look only to Jesus and realized perfect healing of body, mind, and spirit. After not being able to conceive, she became the mother of three children––one by adoption, two natural.

Fruitfulness: Two boys and a little girl from Russia found their home with Mark and Amanda G. A little girl from China gained parents and Willa C, as her grandmother. The gold spoil of Michelle and Ken H.’s long battle with barrenness was three children––Joshua Caleb, whom they adopted, and then twin girls born naturally. Through prayer and fasting, Davi and Kurt M. were blessed with a baby boy after ten years of marriage.

Promise of a Homeland, Purpose and Heaven: Kim C.’s long, involved story of deliverance from Satanic oppression linked to childhood verbal abuse, rape and the occult, had a happy ending with all her family finding Jesus, which was the only request she made of God. Her mother and sister both died, but Kim had assurance through dreams that both made it to heaven.

Protection: Linda B. and Sally J. each prayed early one morning, as usual. Linda’s children walked away from their van that rolled three times that day––which usually is fatal. Sally’s five-year-old grandson was backed over by a car. When his mother turned to thank the man who prayed for him at the scene, he was gone. Four days later the child was playing in the yard.

Spoil is defined as plunder taken from an enemy in war or from a victim in a robbery. We know it is Satan who comes to steal, kill and destroy. Like these ladies, you just read about, it is time for all of us to stand up and take back what he has stolen from us. It is hard work. It is war, and it is God’s battle!

What is the Strategy for Women to Take Back the Spoil?

WOMEN: God's Secret Weapon

Psalm 68:11 begins by saying, “The Lord gives the command.” The Hebrew noun, ômer, for ‘command’ means a purpose, a plan. The word ‘armies’ is the Hebrew word tsâbâ which is also translated as ‘host’ or ‘company’, as in a host of soldiers, angels, or in reference to all of creation.

Who is giving this command? Jehovah-Sabaoth [The Lord of hosts], Supreme Commander of the Universe. He is carrying out a strategy to win His Bride for His Son, and He is doing it––with a purpose and a plan––just as He had a purpose and plan for the children of Israel.

After the children of Israel left Egypt and arrived in the Promised Land, and they were about to fight for the land, Joshua saw a man with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua asked him, “Are you for us or for our adversaries?”

And he said, “No, rather I indeed come now as captain of the host of the LORD.” And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and bowed down and said to him, “What has my lord to say to his servant?”

And the captain of the LORD’S host said to Joshua, “Remove your sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy” (Josh. 5:13-15). And Joshua did so.

The captain of the LORD’S host is none other than Jehovah Sabaoth [The LORD of hosts]. With His drawn sword in hand, it’s like He was saying to Joshua and now to us, “Fear not, I will take it from here. I see you; I hear you, and I am here. Just trust me; know me; seek me; believe Me and keep confessing My Word and act on it!”

This re-matched victory against the serpent Satan will come about through the influence of the woman. But, a woman cannot do it alone, no more than she can have a child on her own––we trust the Lord of hosts to fight for us.

God chose Mary to give birth to His Son; thus, bringing Him into the world the first time. God has chosen you and me as end-time Marys, with Josephs by our side,  to give birth to the harvest of souls before the second coming of His Son, Jesus Christ.

Women Gods Secret Agents How to Get Your Spoil

A Memorial Tribute to Two Women

The following is a memorial to two women in our group who graduated before us: Kim Crowe and Karen Hedges

one heartbeat away

A book, in its original 1898 version as Intra Muros, was passed down from my husband’s parents to us after their recent death. Jim’s sister called to ask me to read it and let her know what I thought about it. She had read it twice and was ready to read it the third time. I obeyed, and am I glad I did! It’s about Rebecca Springer’s extended season of suffering and her vision/dream.

She gives great detail of what heaven is like; many other experiences I’ve read about, that this book confirms. Rev. Billy Graham endorses it by saying, “My Dream of Heaven [the latest version] captures biblical truths with emotional impressions.”

I have since given this book away in memory of my friend, Karen Hedges, wife of the President of Fort Scott Community College at that time. On August 31, 2006, Karen spoke to her friends at the health center where she was a volunteer. She was going to see the doctor for the second time—regarding a low-grade headache she’d had since July. She stopped by the cashier’s booth to talk, where I was covering for my co-worker’s fifteen- minute break.

Shortly afterward, I learned that Karen had died in the doctor’s office. Her mother was in the hospital at the time, and I thought surely it’s her mother, not Karen! But it was Karen. After the nurse took her blood pressure, she was to step onto the scales to be weighed. As she rose from her chair, she said, “I think I’m going to faint.”

Many thought it had to be an aneurysm, but it was because of a faulty heart valve. She’d had a heart murmur since contracting rheumatic fever as a child. A recent check-up revealed her heart was fine.

Karen’s death, along with Kim’s (as you learned in this study), has affected me like no other. Maybe it’s because of our oldest son’s second aortic valve replacement surgery less than three months prior. The doctor told our son after surgery, “You were one heartbeat away.”

Unable to sleep, I asked the Lord, “Why can’t I get over this?”

I sensed His reply: I don’t want you to get over this! Don’t ever put off for tomorrow what you can do today. Write that get-well and sympathy card now. Pray more. Make each moment count. Reconcile hurts quickly. Be alert to opportunities to serve Me and others. Keep your family priority. Make this book available at discount and give it in lieu of flowers. From what you learned in this book, build and maintain relationships—the only thing you will take into eternity, for I am coming soon!

“And now, dear children, continue in him, so that when he appears we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming” (I John 2:28)for we are all only one heartbeat away.

M12I CROWN Calling Real Ordinary [Wo]men Now!

The following are the four steps the body of Christ must make as one before it can begin to run. The first three have been addressed. The fourth step may seem way out “there” and it is, but not when the first three steps are taken seriously and given the time they deserve.

Step #1 – turn from sin—repent

Step #2 – share your testimony

Step #3 – plead the blood of the Lamb

Step #4 – answer God’s personalized assignment for you while not shrinking from death

The Lord is THERE as Jehovah Shammah and His hand is not shortened that He cannot get his purpose, plan and will to you and me for our lives while we are on this planet. But it seems we always ask the question:

What can one person do? Allow me to give six examples:

First Example: Irina is a believer who lives in Krymsk, a city of about 75,000 people in southern Russia. When an Every Home Crusade (EHC) team arrived and began mobilizing believers to reach every family with the Gospel, Irina eagerly volunteered to help. After several days of participating in home-to-home evangelism, Irina had a powerful dream. In her dream, Irina said she saw someone who was like Daniel’s “Ancient of Days” (Dan. 7:9), standing above a harvest field. And then He spoke to her saying, “See how white the field has turned, but there are no people for the harvest!”

Irina believed this dream was her calling from God to be a Great Commission evangelist. She didn’t stop to think about it twice. Irina went to work! EHC’s team leader, Alexander Sakharov, reported, “She went out every day, with or without others to help her, in good weather and bad. Even though every home in Krymsk has since been reached with the Gospel, Irina’s mission continues.” Now she is continuing the work with follow-up, in hospitals, with students and at the gymnasium. She is also sharing the Gospel home to home in nearby cities. It is a great encouragement when people find their calling. It inspires others to action.”[1]

Second Example: Videos are available about remarkable community transformations as the result of prayer [see ]. Ruth Ruibal tells about her city, Calle, Columbia, where 60,000 Christians jam the municipal soccer stadium for all-night prayer vigils every ninety days. A multi-billion dollar drug cartel was brought down in the late 1990’s. It happened through unity of the spiritual leadership. That unity came with a great price tag— Ruth’s husband. He was a local pastor who fought for the unity of the pastoral leadership and was martyred for it.

Third Example: Chuck Ripka gives his testimony in his book, God Out of The Box. He started out as a construction worker and is now an international banker. It happened by his obedience to the Lord one day at a time. He stopped praying for people and started praying with them, and he has empowered his employees in his bank in Minnesota to do the same; people go to his bank for prayer! His faithful obedience, and that of his team, spread to the capitol and beyond. His faith-at-work story received international attention; revival has come to his state.

Fourth Example: Cheri B., who you read about in Chapter 17, took her son Josiah and his friend John to India and Sri Lanka on a missions trip in February, 2008. Before leaving, she memorized Habakkuk 3:19 in the Amplified Bible, “The Lord God is my strength, my personal bravery and my invincible army; He makes my feet like hind’s feet, and will make me to walk [not to stand still in terror, but to walk] and make [spiritual progress upon my high places [of trouble, suffering or responsibility]!” It gave her great comfort, courage and confidence in the Lord.

She would need it. Persecution of the Christians in Sri Lanka was very serious. A pastor was killed and his wife and child seriously injured. They met in a house church where Cheri spoke. She and her mission team brought much encouragement to the weary, yet joyful, Church there. The most joyous part is that she witnessed the Church overcome its division and come together as one. Her February 12 email said, “It’s a powerful position to be in when the Church arises as the Warrior Bride of Christ to take her stand against the enemy. Amazing!”

Fifth Example: Although Kathy F.’s parents were Christians and her father had seminary training, conversations about Jesus were infrequent at home. After two divorces, Kathy descended to a breaking point. It was then a friend shared with her about the Holy Spirit. She gave her a book about the Holy Spirit. Kathy grew hungry for the Word as she learned about who He is.

She was content to work and delight herself in the Lord when a friend kept hounding her to call “this guy.” That’s the last thing I need, she thought.

The friend would not quit, so she called. Not home. Great! But, he had caller I.D. and returned the call. He said all the right things—wanting to honor the Lord. He had been through a fourteen year wilderness himself.

Their relationship grew resulting in marriage where they were determined to put God first. Kathy went to a revival service where she prayed for God to give her husband a hunger for the Word. When she came home from work the next day he was reading his Bible. He had seen a message on television by Pastor John Hagee that impacted his life. His hunger for the Lord increased. While in his pickup one day—he received the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Kathy’s marriage to Mark has prospered as they both committed to each other—placing the Lord first. They have been married for over ten years, are both learning about the healing ministry, and have gone to classes to learn how to pray for people as the Holy Spirit leads,.

As a railroad engineer, Mark prays for his co-workers, and Kathy listens to people around her in the marketplace. As the Lord directs, she prays with them. She also volunteers with the hospital chaplaincy. Her desire is to help others prepare their heart for healing in all areas. She guides them in prayers of heart preparation she learned from author Joan Hunter that she learned from Joan’s books: Healing the Heart and Healing the Whole Man Handbook.

Misty as example Is. 49:6

Sixth Example: Misty R. has seen many answers to prayer as she allows God to work in her life. She exhibits no traces of serious eye and facial wounds from a head-on collision she experienced at the age of thirteen.

A friend taught Misty to pray specifically and to believe God to meet “all” her needs, even very small things. She started to keep a journal of her prayers in a spiral notebook. She drew columns, one for requests and one for answers, expecting God to answer every one of them. She prayed for a big and tall man’s size shirt. The Lord led her to a brand new one, but also one for her son. He always gave more than she asked. Twice, when she and her husband needed money for car repairs or such, her mother called to say a mysterious cow got out, was killed and the sheriff gave them the cow; they took it to the stockyards and sent Misty the money.

Next, she learned to ask big, believe big, and receive big from her great big God. After going to a Beth Moore Bible study, she prayed, “God, please use me to speak to hurting women. Would you want to use Amy, Cheri, Judy and me as a team?” Misty also claimed John 14:12, “I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.”

Misty’s three friends all lived in other towns and they were not technically a team. But, the phone rang, “Misty sit down . . . . My brother and wife in South Africa called. The women have been praying for God to send women to bring encouragement.”

The women in Africa prayed for twenty-four hours for the four ladies to know if they were to come. The Lord gave Misty, Isaiah 49:6, “I will make you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring my salvation to the ends of the earth.”

The Lord gave the same Scripture to the women in Africa. The lady from Africa said, “Go get your passports and your way will be paid.”

The women decided it was time to tell their husbands, and the LORD gave them a temporary name, C.R.O.W.N. – Calling Real Ordinary [Wo]men Now.

You can imagine the spiritual battle the women went through in order to have the $14,500 for all four to go in only four weeks time. With no fundraiser and never asking for any of it, God provided. “When God places an order, God pays the bill,” Misty said. In other words, it was all accomplished in His strength, no human factor whatsoever—and heaven was brought to earth for them.

The women spent fourteen days in Africa. They spoke at a women’s’ retreat, participated in all-night prayer meetings, sang in orphanages, and met with people who were desperate for the Lord. On three different occasions, people came up to Misty and said, “I have to tell you there is a white light around you. Satan is attacking you, but God is protecting you.”

In addition, Misty realized that Ephesians 6, which tells about the armor God gives, provides no protection for the back—because He never intends us to retreat.

Misty asked her hostess, “What do you think of us in America?”

Her reply, “Quite frankly, we don’t think there will be many Americans in heaven. You have heaven on earth. You are so busy, busy, busy. I have to go before heaven every day and pray for water for my baby.”

Seventh Example: Your story goes here.

Jehovah Shammah - exampleListen to these words from a man’s viewpoint. Chuck Pierce, president of Glory of Zion International Ministries says, “Women are in the forefront because they model conception, travail and birthing better than men. I believe God is asking the same question He asked at Abraham’s tent, ‘Where are My Sarahs?’ He is saying, ‘I want to conceive My purpose in this hour to bring forth My inheritance in the nations. I need Sarahs filled with faith who can conceive and give birth to this plan.’”[2]

Where are the faithful Sarahs? Where are the daughters of Hagar who now believe? Where are American women? Do we have to have our heaven on earth removed before we will get serious with God and take a stand? Will the African lady continue to be right or wrong?

President of Harvest Evangelism, Inc., Ed Silvoso, in his book, Women: God’s Secret Weapon, believes there has to be a rematch between the devil and the woman. After all, the first deception was between the serpent and the woman before the man was influenced. Silvoso writes, “I call it a rematch because it will involve the original contenders: human beings and the devil himself. Just like their predecessor in the Garden, women will play a central role. Except that this time, as God has predicted, Eve’s daughters will win.”[3]

Another man encourages women. Author and teacher, Francis Frangipane says, “Yes, indeed, there is a battle; there still exists ‘enmity between (the serpent) and the woman’ (Gen. 3:15). Satan especially hates you because it was your seed that bruised the serpent’s head. It is amazing to me that God chose to bring His Son into the world, not through the heavens nor even through a woman impregnated by man, but through a woman made pregnant by God! God Himself came to earth through the woman’s power to give birth!”[4]

God chose Mary to give birth to his Son and now He has chosen you and me to give birth to the end-time harvest of souls who help make up His Bride. Your testimony is important! Your written and spoken testimonial words of God’s faithfulness, mercy and love are like throwing Jesus’ blood into Satan’s face. Do it!

Just as Denise’s words help us now, your words will help many. We need each other, and we must ban together as one body and one voice. I make this commitment to you—to share your words. Go to the Contact Us page at my blog: Please let us hear from you. Tell us your story RIGHT HERE

M12H Overcome Fear of Death

The Scripture for this chapter—overcoming by the blood and by the word of our testimony—was another theme Scripture for our women’s group. However, the last part of it was not on our promotional material. “Not loving our own lives so much as to shrink from death,” means we must face the physical part of death when it comes to following Jesus as His disciple. This initially seemed too hard for our group to bear. Letting dreams die, as an example, is only a spiritual aspect.

overcome fear of death

Ruth said to Naomi: “May the LORD deal with me, be it ever so severely, if anything but death separates you and me” (Ruth 1:17). This is true commitment. Is our commitment to Jesus Christ this strong? We need to make this decision now before we should ever be faced with it. One member of our group had a vivid dream which brought her to this choice on February 8, 2003. It was Denise. She fell asleep listening to Scripture tapes. She was praying for God to fill her with His Spirit and to change her.

Denise overcame fear of death for Jesus Christ’s sake

Denise dreamed she was in a huge, tall, apartment-type building. Suddenly, like cell phones, everyone had a small, hand-held computer. She wrote:

On the top floor, people were dressed in blue body suits including faces masked in blue. They were playing a musical type instrument, swaying back and forth. On the back of their heads at the base of their skulls were blue tubes like a vacuum hose leading to a laptop computer in the center of the room. On the screen was another blue screen with a diamond-shaped box that turned slowly; it rippled like when touching water. It was all evil, and addictive like a video game and brainwashing.

My two friends and I were awakened suddenly with yelling to get out of the building—very urgent. On the street, everyone had the same laptop computers. Leaflets were passed out—folded in quarters. Everyone who looked at it seemed entranced.

Back in the apartment was a man watching us very closely. We pretended to be engrossed in the computer, but were not. He put his cell phone away. I grabbed my friend, who had a leaflet, to take her into the bathroom to warn her that this was all evil. As we got to the bathroom, two mean-looking men came out. They had sores all over their faces. In the bathroom, two more men were standing in front of the sink, looking into the mirror. One man ran his hand through his hair and the red hair that was on top of his head was in his hand. He said, “Look, I am a new creation.” And then I saw a razor in the sink and he proceeded to shave the sides and back of his head and his beard and when he was done (like a second later) he started praising God and singing. The guy next to him did the same thing, but he had his hair.

I felt the Holy Spirit come upon me and I wanted to join in, but I stopped myself. A few moments earlier, I looked at my friend and she was just like those men we saw leaving the bathroom. She had sores on her face—looking mean and full of hate. As I listened to the men singing praise, I knew that if I joined in, I would either be killed or put in prison. I chose to join in.

There is no other choice for me. As I make that decision right now, I know that no matter what happens to me, I will sing praises to God and that what I might suffer through will only be short lived. Next, my husband woke me up.

Jehovah Shammah - do not shrink from death

The Lord has given Denise a message for Christians

She is very passionate when she says, “I just want to share something that is deep in my heart. Most people do not realize the persecution of Christians that is going on today. In fact, most people do not even have a clue of the history of Christian persecution and martyrdom. Just going from 33 A.D. thru the year 2000 there have been roughly 69,421,230 Christians who have been martyred for their faith. The surprising number is that 65 percent of this persecution has taken place in the last 100 years.[1]

“It is time to WAKE UP! WAKE UP! Stop sleeping, sleepy Christians. It is time to become REAL with our faith! Be in God’s WORD like never before! Share your FAITH like never before! While we have the FREEDOM to do so! It doesn’t hurt to speak out to protect those freedoms that so many men and women in our history have bled and died for! We don’t know what tomorrow will bring, but we all know that our world is changing and things are not going to be as they once were! We cannot afford to be caught off guard! We must stand together as ONE voice! More importantly we must fight the good fight, keep up the race to the finish and keep the faith! SO WAKE UP, Sleepy Christians! WAKE UP!”

M12G Overcome by the Blood the Lamb

Very slowly, God did begin to reveal His plan—with very small beginnings. Precious Mary H. and her grown niece, Barbara S., lived one block from the health center. They opened their homes for prayer and sharing during our half-hour lunch times once a week, each taking turns. My friend Linda Scammell drove to town from where she and Chuck, her husband, had returned from Texas. We had lost touch with each other, and surprisingly, after twenty-five years, they were here, too. It was Linda who shared how learning the names of God, taught by their pastor, had set their church on fire. Our group caught fire—studying them over and over for seven years.

For two years we shared, made more friends and marveled that the men in town had a weekly, nondenominational, prayer and share time—but there was nothing for the women. I told God, “Well, I’m not doing it. If you want it done, You will have to do it Yourself!”

He did . . . by bringing me a choice I had to make. Anne Graham Lotz, daughter of Billy Graham, was to hold one of her first Just Give Me Jesus conferences in Kansas City. As the time drew near, we knew we had to let other women know about it and car pool together. Janice Lamb and I handed out flyers we made. Thirty women answered the call. I also had thirty Angels on Assignment books left from my business inventory. I stuffed my testimony about the book inside, and handed them out.

After the seminar, we knew we had to keep the momentum going, so we put out a questionnaire to see if the women wanted to continue with monthly meetings. They did, and their top three choices were to have testimonies, praise songs, and prayer at each meeting. The winning name of the contest for our group was: Women with a Passion for Jesus.

Women with a Passion for Jesus learn to plead the blood

Learn to plead the blood

Our first meeting was September 8, 2001. After September 11, we knew why God had called us to meet. We had already adopted 2 Chronicles 7:14 as our guiding Scripture, “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

At our second meeting, we did just that—we came together to repent, confess the sins of our land and pray as Nehemiah prayed for Jerusalem. He was personally not involved in turning away from the Lord, but he included himself in the act of rebellion against God: “I confess the sins we Israelites, including myself and my father’s house, have committed against you. We have acted very wickedly toward you. We have not obeyed the commands, decrees and laws you gave your servant Moses” (Neh. 1:6-7). The Lord responded by giving Nehemiah everything he needed to rebuild and restore the Jerusalem wall.

After this, we felt we needed to know more specifically what sins had been committed in our area so we could repent wisely. After research which led to the days of “Bleeding Kansas,” we made two columns on a large tablet. The first column listed all the atrocities committed in the past; in the second, the promises in the Word that covered them.

It all boiled down to the blood of Jesus that covers them all. The shedding of innocent blood was covered by the blood of the Lamb. Thus, we learned to plead the blood of Jesus over our city, our state and our nation.

We also learned to prayer walk. We prayed Nehemiah’s prayer as we walked up and down the streets in town named after pro-slavery leaders: JUDSON, CRAWFORD, EDDY, HOLBROOK, BLACKBURN, LOWMAN and LITTLE.

Our walks were inspired by: 1) Joshua 1:3, “I will give you every place where you set your foot,” and 2) by the book PrayerWalk by Janet Holm McHenry. Her 5:00 a.m., prayer walks were inspired by the words of Jesus, “Could you not tarry one hour?” She saw many answers to prayer for her family and for people behind businesses and houses where she walked. One morning when passing by the sign of her town, she envisioned the sign reading, “The Place Where God Lives,” and then she saw people flocking to her small town in California.

Likewise, we have seen some answers to prayer with the honoring of African-American, Gordon Parks, world-renowned photojournalist, filmmaker, novelist, poet and composer, who left here at the age of fourteen because of prejudice. He chose to be buried here where the community college established a center to honor his works in their new fine arts center. We have also seen other African-Americans return here where they are now welcomed.

Jehovah Shammah - overcome by blood of Lamb

On a personal level, pleading the blood of Jesus is powerful as well. Susanne Cox, wife of Ron Cox, pastor of Kingwood Church, Birmingham, AL, experienced the power in the blood of the Lamb. Before meeting Ron, she was a missionary in India ministering to girls in prostitution. She spent a day in prayer seeking the Lord in the next step she was to take. Her friend was to meet her at the end of the day to take her home to her village. They missed seeing each other and it grew dark, so she decided to take a taxi home. After fifteen minutes, she realized the driver was going the opposite direction. Pretty soon, he pulled into a filling station where four men approached the car.

Susanne saw the most hideous, demon-possessed looking man speak with the driver. She understood him to be “buying this American.”

Immediately, Susanne prayed under her breath the most passionate prayer she ever prayed in her life. The Holy Spirit told her to pray out loud. She shouted something like this: “I plead the blood of Jesus Christ over these men! Father, you say in Psalm 91 that You will cover me with Your feathers, and under Your wings I will find refuge. I will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor pestilence in darkness. A thousand may fall at my side and ten thousand at my right hand, but it will not come near me, in Jesus name!”

Suddenly, the men were slammed against the building. Susanne was delivered on the spot! She knew mighty angels had come to her rescue that night. Satan is all about death. Jesus is all about Life. It is the sacrificial blood of Jesus Christ that He died to give that is our birthright to live in His kingdom. It does no more for us, except to get our foot in the door, unless we appropriate it in everyday life. We do that in the way Susanne did—against evil—and in praying for each other, in cleansing our homes or apartments, or workplaces, and how the women did in our small town. [Refer to Linda B.’s story of how the Holy Spirit led her early morning, written, prayer to plead the blood over her children, thus saving their lives that night—Module 9.]

M12F Overcome by Sharing Your Testimony

By the time we reach this point in our journey of experiencing God, we should know who we are and where we are going, right? Well almost. At least, we have made some headway, and we pray we do not have to go back and experience the refining fires of Jehovah Jireh again, or the healing streams of Jehovah-Rapha.

However, we find God’s ways are still higher than our ways, and His thoughts certainly wiser. The further we travel we realize we have to overcome or we will be overcome.

The Christmastime evening I was invited to hear Pastor Kelley Varner at The Prayer House learning about Ruth meant so much to me, because I was on the threshing floor right then— about to lose the business/ministry I had spent seventeen years in building.

Oversome in Sharing Your Testimony After the Dream Has Died

What I did not know was I would stay on that threshing floor at least ten more years experiencing the refining fires and healing streams of Jehovah again and again. I would discover that “overcoming” contains  these three dimensions:

  • sharing our testimony—how we take our flame and ignite another
  • the blood of the Lamb—pleading the blood through prayer or prayer walks
  • not shrinking from death—whether it is physical or in the spiritual realm

These steps are recorded in Revelation 12:11 in past-tense form, “They [that is us] overcame [the devil] by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.” This Scripture is talking about you and me after we have left this planet. This chapter explains the next three steps the body of Christ makes after the turning mentioned in the last module.

ocrecome by word of testimony

“But I don’t want to go to work by swiping in and out by the time clock!” Jim came out to the front-porch swing where I was crying.

We had recently moved from Arkansas City, south of Wichita, back to where we began, south of Kansas City, July 1999. Yes, it was the same town from where we moved to Texas when Jim chose to go back to school. We had come full circle back to his first teaching position. Now, he was the Dean of Instruction of the community college where he would retire as president.

“I want to write. I have to write. If I go to work, I won’t have time to write.”

“If you don’t go to work, you won’t be able to get your business debts paid off, either,” he replied.

“I know, but I don’t have to like it. If only . . . If only I had accepted the change faster I wouldn’t be in this fix. I should have taken the ‘buy-out’ the company offered when they sold out. I could have paid off everything and had some extra money so I could go back to school, and not have to swipe a time clock.”

The new company sold our Christian books to Wal Mart stores and it looked like everything I had worked so hard for was coming together. I had six or seven distributors trained and in the field ready to move into the stores, but when all the facts were handed down (after the deadline for taking the buy-out) the discount margin would not allow Jim and me to pay commission fees.

We would have had to do all the traveling and work ourselves in order to make it, [and Jim had been willing to come into the business with me]. That led to another counseling session with Jim as he tried to open my eyes to the facts. He went to bed while I stayed up all night feeling sorry for myself and trying to comprehend what was happening.

The bottom line was I felt like a failure. Years previous to this I found myself with a $10,000 balance on my business credit card I couldn’t seem to get paid off. Jim knew nothing about it; I had to face the truth and face him with it—I could not increase sales enough to get it paid off. I was surprised when I told him that he did not blow up. He said we would refinance the house and also use some of the money to get Kurt to West Point, New York after his high school graduation.

That lesson taught me to take a draw from the business based on the previous month’s sales, not on what I estimated the current month to be. But now, here I was, back in bondage again. The buy-out offered me was equal to the amount I owed the company on the credit line they had given me. That was offered because I had an opportunity to get in a chain of 100 stores.

The chain went bankrupt, but I did get in the back door, so to speak, when each store went independent. To top it all off, I bought some accounts from another distributor only to find the books had been priced higher than normal. I had to buy them back higher than I resold them. When was I ever going to learn and how was I to get out of something I was so far in?

That long night, I told the Lord that He would have to get me out. “I give up. I give it all back to You.” The next day I received a letter from a man in Oklahoma wanting to service accounts and my up-line distributor took over as I sold down inventory over the next year.

After I let my dream die, Jim received the phone call to return to eastern Kansas. So here we were, renting a house one block from the two-story house we lived in before where the angel saved our daughter—an eerie feeling. The question, what is God up to? was continually on my mind.

Jehovah Shammah - share testimony

Jim brought me back to reality (again) when he said, “Ann, I know you want to write, but you have to accept responsibility for where you are now. Don’t you remember what we learned? To be the Church as a force in the community means going where people are—just as your business philosophy was. Staying home to only write is not the answer.”

I knew Jim was right. I accepted the full-time job in the business office at the health center— one of the best decisions I ever made. It was there—working under man’s authority—the Lord sifted and shook leaving solid relationships at work and at home. God is able to do what He wills with a heart and body in a five by six-foot cubicle eight hours per day. God was not interested in how “much” land I could possess, but in how much of my heart He could possess.

It was also there I met the most amazing women on the face of Earth, and I discovered what God was up to. There was no doubt He was connecting me with each person, including the current president of the Christian writer’s group, Carol R. Just when I thought there could be no other spiritual power-house of a woman in this area, there she was. I knew it was God, but it took me awhile to see His purposes in the connections He was orchestrating.

But, I’m getting ahead of myself. We bought another house in town. Its garage held a Christmas, yard sign reading, “Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord.” I didn’t want to do anything! All my own efforts had failed and now, all I really wanted to do was work, come home and rest.

“They [that is us] overcame [the devil] by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death. this is my story of how I had to let my dream die before I could overcome.

M12E We Are Going Home: Who are you bringing?

In the fall of 2001, Louise passionately prayed for her family when at home before going to bed. She released all her burdens in faith to the LORD. At about 2:00 a.m. she woke up wide awake. She saw an angel lying horizontally over the door-sill. She had long, flowing, golden hair and was motioning with her hand to come. Louise got up to see if her aunt, who was living with her, was still alive. She thought possibly the angel was trying to get her attention since her aunt was near death. But, she was okay. What could this mean?

Where are you going HOME? Who are you taking with you? Our mature prayer must be, “Lord, how can I be the answer to someone else’s prayer? Who am I going to greet at heaven’s gates?” #heaven, #shareJesus, #divineencounters, #endtimebiblical, #encouragement, #goinghome, #therapture

Louise shared this the following day at work. These verses came to our minds, “Come unto me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light” (Matt. 11:28-30). These verses were comforting, and this is what Louise had done the night before. But, there seemed to be more. That is when I remembered the words from our son HANK’S DREAM: I’m going to have to let you all go home. Were we being summoned to get ready to go home?

The Lord confirmed this thought a few weeks later. I shared my VISION OF THE RAPTURE  with our women’s group and then told Louise’s story about this angel summoning to come with her hand.

Wilma L. in the audience about shouted as I was talking, but managed to wait until later to share her story.

Wilma L.’s Story – Come Home

The night before, she dreamed she was riding in the back seat of a car. In the front seat was a man who had been a close family friend. He had died a few years earlier, going to heaven because of this family’s influence. All he did was motion with his hand, to come.

The Lord is wooing His bride to be prepared. He is doing that through dreams and visions and even taking men and women to heaven and hell and sending them back to report what they have seen and heard.

Don Piper’s Story – Home and Back

Where are you Going HOME, and who are you taking with you?

Home arrived instantly, without pain, for Don Piper when his red car ran head-on into a semi truck. Rather than arriving at the church where he was pastor and expected to teach a Bible study, he was greeted in heaven by every person who influenced him throughout his entire lifetime to follow Jesus. After ninety minutes, he awoke singing, “What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” with a man who had been praying for him that whole time—bringing heaven to earth. [The full story is documented in Don Piper’s book, 90 Minutes in Heaven.]

Our mature prayer must be, “Lord, how can I be the answer to someone else’s prayer? Who am I going to greet at heaven’s gates?”

M12D New Jerusalem: What is it?

The heavens and the earth have to be made ready for the entrance of the Holy City, purged and cleansed by fire, to make way for the Throne of our Holy Father God which will replace the temple where He and His Son will take up residence. We will all be “there,” home . . . at last.

This is New Jerusalem, also known as heaven.

When the Bible is interpreted literally from the pre-tribulation mindset [Rapture at beginning of tribulation, rather than mid or post], all the events in the book of Revelation make sense and are written in sequence:

Chapters 1 Introduction
Chapter 2-3 Church Age
Chapters 4-5 End of Church Age, Scenes in Heaven (the Church Raptured)[1]
Chapters 6-18 Detailed Description of the Tribulation
Chapter 19 Jesus Comes Physically to Earth with His Army Bride
Chapter 20 Satan Bound in Bottomless Pit and Thousand-Year Kingdom
Chapter 21-22 New Jerusalem Comes Down Out of Heaven[2]

This brings us to Chapter 21 in Revelation, the next to last chapter, where an angel showed John the bride, the wife of the Lamb. He was taken to a high mountain where he saw the Holy City, Jerusalem, “coming down out of heaven from God” (verse10), not saying exactly where it landed, but this is how the story ends and eternity begins.

John said, “I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea” (Rev. 21:1). This first verse shows a big difference from the millennial Jerusalem where water flowed out to the east and west seas.

John describes the dazzling gift Jesus went to heaven to prepare for His wife-to-be—the New Jerusalem: “prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And [he] heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away’” (Rev. 21:2-4).

New Jerusalem

New Jerusalem in shape of cube with no temple is heaven

Interestingly, the New Jerusalem John saw was in the shape of a cube measuring approximately 1,400 miles square. Its walls were 144 cubits, 200 feet, thick. Twelve is the signature of God’s people. It had 12 gates, inscribed with the names of the 12 tribes of Israel, and 12 foundations with the names of the 12 apostles. (See Ezek. 48:30-34).

This perfect cube, holding salty Christians, placed over the United States of America, would extend from the northernmost tip of Maine to the southernmost tip of Florida and from the east coast westward to the state of Colorado. The same distance of about 1,400 plus miles would extend into the sky.[3]

The wall of the New Jerusalem is made of jasper and the city of pure gold—as pure as glass. The great street of the city was pure gold like transparent glass. The twelve foundations of the city walls are decorated with every kind of precious stone—each a different sparkling stone. To top it all off, the twelve gates are each made of one single pearl. Jesus will place the most beautiful, huge, pearl necklace around our neck that will never be matched. The gates will never be shut, for there will be no night. There will be no temple in this city because the LORD is there.

“The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp” (Rev. 21:23). The nations will also walk by its light. The gates of the city will always be open while you and I travel through them.

On Jesus’ robe and on His thigh His name is written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS (see Rev. 19:16). You and I are the kings and lords Jesus is King and Lord of. “Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? . . . Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life!” (1 Cor. 6:2-3). This life is only kindergarten to what we have waiting for us, so we must be wise to learn and accept all God has for us now. We are those kings and lords now, having already been raised up with Christ and seated with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus (see Eph. 2:6).

New Jerusalem and Jehovah Shammah

All three Jerusalems discussed here are real in physical form. It might help to view them spiritually in light of what we learned from the book of Ruth if we are to see what they can mean to us now—before we reach the New Jerusalem. They can be compared as follows:

Old Jerusalem – Orpha, turning the back

Millennial Jerusalem – Naomi – partially transformed

New Jerusalem – Ruth Church (or body of Christ)—something worth seeing—heaven

The old Jerusalem, which we still see today, is a source of strife because God’s name is written there. Satan never has and never will like that. We see that strife and turmoil in the number of times the people turned their back on God—as Orpha did—and the number of times God’s Spirit wooed them back to Him.

The millennial Jerusalem will be partially transformed—not yet heaven. It can be compared spiritually to Naomi. She held back on completely embracing all God had for her. She saw herself as too old to have a husband, yet it was okay for her daughter-in-law, Ruth. This Christian has one foot in the heavenly kingdom and one foot in the world. Linda S. had a dream of this type Christian. She saw this person straddling a fence with a very sad face. This person has no joy and is in danger of his or her whole body being pulled into Satan’s quicksand. Another example of this type Christian was Lot, Abraham’s nephew, who chose to live near the city of Sodom. When the angels came to destroy Sodom, he and his family were living inside. They would have been destroyed also if Abraham had not interceded for their lives.

The New Jerusalem Church, or body of Christ, has grabbed hold of all God’s promises and claimed them personally. They fulfill what the Lord’s Prayer means—Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven (see Matt. 6:10). Before we, as the bridal company, can be raptured we must go to New Jerusalem spiritually and live there now—bringing heaven to Earth. This is no different than when Abraham and Sarah left all to follow the call of God on their lives by following His voice to Canaan. They had to go there physically before they could birth the new land and new nation—before their descendants could take possession.

New Jerusalem

The book of Galatians in the New Testament sheds more light on the old and New Jerusalem. In speaking of Hagar and Sarah it says:

The women represent two covenants. One covenant is from Mount Sinai and bears children who are to be slaves: This is Hagar. Now Hagar stands for Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present city of Jerusalem, because she is in slavery with her children. But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother.—Galatians 4:24-26

Hagar represents the law of the Old Testament. The new Christians had found freedom in Jesus Christ, but false teachers tried to get them to feel they had to do certain things to please the Lord, or to obtain salvation. This breeds a slavery mindset. This is striving to do things in our own strength, just as Ishmael was born of natural means—what could be humanly controlled—not a supernatural occurrence. Those living with a slavery mindset take no personal responsibility to the Christ who set them free (see Gal. 5:1). Their actions are dictated by what others think and tell them to do. This mindset also means being a slave to pleasures, never looking to anything outside of self or beyond self-gratification in what can be seen, felt or touched.

In contrast, Isaac was born through supernatural circumstances—Abraham and Sarah both past the time for child bearing. This represents the Jerusalem that is from above and free.

Entering into the New Jerusalem is supernaturally experiencing God, bringing heaven to Earth in our carnal circumstances. This will not happen until we come to the end of self, knowing that if God does not do it, nothing will happen at all.

Some people refer to this level of spiritual attainment as the “anointing.” What it means is that the Lord works with us and confirms His Word by the signs that accompany it (see Mark 16:20). Why? Because we are now partners in ministry with God.

As the coming of the Lord approaches, we see more and more that we are living in a combat zone between the forces of heaven and hell. Satan, because he knows his time is short, has deployed all his demon forces upon us all. We must remember that God’s grace is greater than all the devil can bring against us (see Rom. 5:20).

Satan, the deceiver, is himself deceived. He thinks he is in control, but he is wrong. “The one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world” (1 John 4:4). And when we think the problem is another person, we must know that “our struggle is not with flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Eph. 6:12).

We must know there is nothing that can come against us that cannot be overcome, because we are already legally on the throne with Jesus. Satan is only the force God has chosen to use to train us in reigning. Therefore, we must learn to fight with a supernatural ability that comes, not only through praise and worship, but in waiting upon and allowing Jehovah God to do His work through us until the time He chooses to bring us home.

For those who have ears to hear, eyes to see and a mouth to speak the things of the Lord, heaven will be brought to Earth and souls will be snatched from hell’s waiting room. This also means we need to keep an open mind and heart to visitations of the Lord, because they are THERE.

[1] The first Chapter of Revelation 4 makes sense when looking at the big picture of the Church, rather than from only John the apostle’s perspective. It is written, “After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.”

M12C Jerusalem Transformed

Ezekiel and transformed Jerusalem

Ezekiel, from Chapters 40 through 48, describes the vision God gave him of the end-time Jerusalem and temple. Since 70 A.D. when the Romans destroyed Jerusalem and the temple, there has been no temple. Ezekiel was shown exactly how the new, transformed temple area would look with exact dimensions, and how the whole city would look, including how the land would be divided among the twelve tribes of Israel when they would be one nation.

This Jerusalem Ezekiel saw is the kingdom of Israel during and after the seven-year tribulation period. This Jerusalem is restored with the third temple built in which offerings are sacrificed by the Jewish people—referred to as the “millennial temple.” It will also be desecrated by the Antichrist during the tribulation (see Matt. 24:15).

Ezekiel witnessed the climax of all the ages: he saw the glory of the God of Israel enter the temple from the east, and he heard His voice like the roar of rushing waters and saw the whole land fill with His radiant glory. He heard a voice speaking to him, “Son of man, this is the place of my throne and the place of the soles of my feet. This is where I will live among the Israelites forever. The house of Israel will never again defile my holy name . . . .” (Eze. 43:7). Jesus own feet will descend upon Earth causing a great earthquake.

Zechariah Jerusalem transformed

The prophet Zechariah, who appears on the scene after the Jew’s return from Babylonian exile, fills in some blanks. Chapter 14 of his book describes the day the glory of the Lord fills the temple. Jesus Christ will have just ended the battle of Armageddon to keep mankind from destroying themselves. “On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west, forming a great valley, with half of the mountain moving north and half moving south” (Zech. 14:4).

On that day there will be no light, no cold or frost. It will be a unique day, without daytime or nighttime—a day known to the LORD. When evening comes, there will be light. On that day living water will flow out from Jerusalem, half to the eastern sea and half to the western sea, in summer and in winter. The LORD will be king over the whole earth. On that day there will be one LORD, and his name the only name.—Zechariah 14:6-9 (emphasis mine)

That unique day will be the first day of the next one-thousand years when Jesus will reign as King in Jerusalem. It will be inhabited and will never again be destroyed. All peoples of the Earth will go up to Jerusalem to worship the King of kings and Lord of lords, and any nation who rebels against the Lord will see no rain in their land. If they do not go to Jerusalem to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles, they will experience plagues. The great earthquake that will split the Mount of Olives when Jesus’ feet hit Earth will cause the whole city to be raised up, and water will flow out from Jerusalem to the eastern and western seas.

Jerusalem transformed like heaven on earth

transformed Jerusalem with temple
This is an artist’s impression of the future (third)
Jewish temple. Notice that in this position it is in perfect alignment with the eastern gate.

Jerusalem will be like heaven on Earth, but it will not be heaven . . . yet. Jesus will be THERE, yes, but that is not all. You and I will be there in our glorified bodies. Jesus did not come back to Earth alone. Look at Zechariah 14:5 that says when He comes He will bring all His holy ones with Him. That is you and me, made holy by His blood.

We truly are His feet! For us and the whole house of Israel, the LORD says, “I will glorify the place of my feet. The sons of your oppressors will come bowing before you; all who despise you will bow down at your feet and will call you the City of the LORD, Zion of the Holy One of Israel” (Isa. 60: 13-14).

Moving from Zechariah 14 to Revelation, Chapter 19 describes the wedding supper of the Lamb after His bride had made herself ready. John saw with his own eyes the rider on the white horse, Jesus Christ, His eyes like blazing fire and a crown on His head and his robe dipped in blood—His name the Word of God. He witnessed the armies of heaven following him, also riding on white horses, dressed in white linen. The army bride and Jesus Christ will fight against the armies gathered together at the battle of Armageddon. We—the army bride—will be there. We will witness with our own eyes the capture of the beast (the Antichrist) and the False Prophet as they are thrown into the lake of burning sulfur.

[John] saw an angel coming down out of heaven, having the key to the Abyss and holding in his hand a great chain. He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. He threw him into the Abyss, and locked and sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time.—Revelation 20:1-3

Transformed Jerusalem and Jehovah Shammah

Jerusalem transformed during millennial kingdom by the presence of the LORD

No longer will the devil be able to deceive the nations or individuals or make war against those who hold fast to the testimony of Jesus—for one thousand years, anyway. Dr. Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins capture this thousand-year millennial kingdom in their fictional story, based on their interpretation of Scripture, in the last of sixteen books of the Left Behind series, Kingdom Come. It takes them 350 pages to show what this period of time will look like. Their view is that those Christians who were raptured, or martyred during the tribulation, will be living on Earth and in Jerusalem in glorified bodies. Believers who managed to make it through the tribulation will still have human bodies while continuing to marry and have babies.

During the millennial kingdom, Jerusalem is transformed by the presence of the LORD, which is a picture of His mighty love, patience, and how He transforms our lives—little by little. Unbelievers left behind after the Rapture, who are faced with the tribulation period because they did not trust Jesus as personal Lord and Savior, will still be given the chance to follow Him. The whole reason for all the plagues and terrible calamities that will happen are so “man” will turn from his wicked ways, repent, and acknowledge that Jesus Christ is his creator and Lord of all (see Rev. 9:20-21). Again, and again, man will be given a second, third, fourth chance, but somewhere down the road, it will be too late.

Only believers will live in the millennial kingdom – the transformed Jerusalem

Babies who are then born and grow up will be given the choice and opportunity to follow Jesus. The opportunity to sin will still exist on Earth during the thousand years because it is still the old Earth and the old heaven. Before Jerusalem can become the “New” Jerusalem, remaining throughout eternity, all the effects of humanity’s sins must be destroyed from Earth. Peter tells us how it will happen:

The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.   —2 Peter 3:10-13 (emphasis mine)

The heavens and the earth have to be made ready for the entrance of the Holy City, purged and cleansed by fire, to make way for the Throne of our Holy Father God which will replace the temple where He and His Son will take up residence. We will all be “there,” home . . . at last.

This will be New Jerusalem, also known as heaven.

M12B Jerusalem: History, Prophets, Fall & Restoration

Moses guided the children of Israel, with God’s directions, to build a tabernacle tent for worship while they were in the wilderness. It was carried everywhere they traveled. After the nation of Israel was established, King David passed on to his son Solomon the mandate to build the temple for which he made plans. After Solomon finished building the temple and the royal palace in Jerusalem, the LORD appeared to him and said, “I have heard the prayer and plea you have made before me; I have consecrated this temple, which you have built, by putting my Name there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there” (1 Kings 9:3).

The LORD also reiterated to King Solomon that if he would continue to walk in His ways, there should never fail to be a man on the throne of Israel, but if his descendants turned away from Him, all would be lost and Israel would become an object of ridicule and scorn.

Daniels’ prayer says it well, “Under the whole heaven nothing has ever been done like what has been done to Jerusalem” (Dan. 9:12). This is a city that has been besieged approximately forty different times and destroyed (at least) partially on thirty-two different occasions. The rulership of Jerusalem has changed hands about twenty-six times. Since 1948 Jerusalem has experienced four wars.[1]

Prophets in Jerusalem

Daniel, Ezekiel and Jeremiah were all prophets during the Babylonian captivity [the bolded time above], beginning in 605 B.C. We previously studied Jeremiah [Module 3], who stayed in Jerusalem until its fall and beyond. The fall occurred because, after listening to Jeremiah, the people decided, “Each of us will follow the stubbornness of our evil heart.”

Jeremiah was probably a mentor to Ezekiel who was taken to Babylon [Baghdad, Iraq] in the second invasion—eight years after Daniel was taken in the first invasion. Daniel, belonging to a family of high rank, was in the palace at Babylon the same time Ezekiel was in the country about fifty miles away. Ezekiel possibly visited Daniel.

Ezekiel’s purpose in Babylon was to be God’s voice to remind the people of the reason all these calamities happened. The phrase, “The word of the Lord came unto me,” occurs forty-nine times in Ezekiel. He was the prophet of visions: many for the Jewish people today; many for Christians today. He lived among the captives, so his mission was one on one—as a watchman warning them.

Ezekiel’s very life was God’s sign of what was happening to Jerusalem. His wife died the day the siege of Jerusalem began. One can imagine Ezekiel would have been able to reveal God’s broken heart to the people because of the great love he and God had for their wives—God’s relationship with Israel being that of a marriage. The northern kingdom of Israel had been taken captive by the Assyrians 120 years earlier, and now Jerusalem, the southern kingdom of Judah, was dead.

Jeremiah, Daniel, and Ezekiel were all very young men when God called them to voice His words to His people before, during and after this crisis. The captivity lasted seventy years as foretold by Jeremiah. At the end, the people did turn back to God, but not during it. It was Ezra and Nehemiah who would lead in that spiritual and physical reconstruction effort.

Ezekiel Restoration of Jerusalem

With the news of the fall of Jerusalem, Ezekiel prophesies about the future restoration of Israel. In Chapter 37 of Ezekiel, he sees dead, dry bones come together with a rattling sound, and tendons, flesh and skin appear on them. He says that the Sovereign LORD says He will gather the Israelites out of all the nations where they were driven and bring them back into their own land. That happened in 1948, and Jerusalem was recaptured in the 1967 war. [Jim Miesner, my husband, was twenty-four years old and with the 82nd Airborne Division in 1967. He was on alert to go to Israel, but the war ended in only six days. He deployed to Vietnam instead.]

Thousands upon thousands of Jewish people have regathered in Israel, and have been rebuilding Zion (Jerusalem). (see Eze. 37:3, 7-11, 21-23; Matt. 24:32-34 for prophecies fulfilled.)

And the LORD says, “I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel. There will be one king over all of them and they will never again be two nations or be divided into two kingdoms” (Eze. 37:22). That King will be Jesus Christ when He returns to the earth at the end of the seven-year tribulation period.
