What I Learned on Valentine’s Day 1988

Jim was teaching at the community college in Arkansas City, south-central Kansas, close to the Oklahoma border, and I was church secretary after our fourth child Hank was born. Hank was five years younger than Matthew; Matt five years younger than Francy and two years between her and Kurt. This is the context of the most memorable Valentine’s Day I would ever have–and that changed my life forever!

It was soon evident I needed to begin my business/ministry so I could work my own hours from home. I loved being on the road servicing book racks. It brought many adventures – like my Valentine Day story.

You are My Valentine, Love Jesus - Valentine's Day

I figured I could service book racks on Saturdays to begin, so I sold my first account to Graves Drug store in town. Twenty-four more accounts in close-by towns followed easily after facing my fears, which was very difficult. My life-saver was repeating out loud 2 Timothy 1:7, from the Amplified: “God has not given me a spirit of timidity—of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear—but of power and of love and of calm and a well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control.” Soon, I found Zechariah 4:6 to be quicker to say and just as powerful: “Not by might, nor by my power, but by my Spirit, says the LORD Almighty.” Repeating these Scriptures brought peace and calmed my fears.

In all the places which agreed to put in Christian books, those sales were made on the first call. Store managers liked the family values they portrayed with service provided as a guaranteed sale at 25% discount. We middle-(wo)men distributors bought at 40% discount, making it necessary to have an abundance of accounts to be worthwhile.

With the racks and home parties, I soon left the secretarial job. I absolutely loved my new adventure with Jesus. It was like He took my hand and directed every move. He so very subtly built my confidence.

Over the next seventeen years the twenty-five racks grew to fifty. Matt and Hank helped me price books with UPC stickers. Our garage converted to a bookstore on delivery day. A room off the garage with no windows, built for the previous owner’s paintings, doubled perfectly for bookshelves—no sunlight to fade the books. We had fun and I was able to buy my own van for delivery, but all the work was not without a price.

The 10,000 miles per year turned into 30,000; stress began to take its toll. My time with the Lord was compromised when I found myself leaving at 4:30 a.m. to get to Oklahoma City to have those racks serviced by the deadline of 10:00 a.m. Trips from Tulsa to Lawton, Oklahoma, Wichita Falls, Texas, and Boonville, Arkansas started to get to me—especially after two close calls on the highway.

I started to wake up and ask God what I was doing. A book in the Bible began to haunt me. The prophet Hosea was appalled at the idolatry of God’s people, idolatry he called adultery.

God expressed His love to the people through Hosea’s life when, at God’s direction, he took a wife who was as unfaithful to him as Israel was to her God. She left Hosea and he bought her back. God told Hosea, “Love her as the Lord loves the Israelites, though they turn to other gods . . . “(Hosea 3:1).

The verse that haunted me was 2:16, “In that day,” declares the Lord, “you will call me ‘my husband’; you will no longer call me ‘my master.’”

I meditated on that verse and asked the Lord, “What does this mean? Am I seeing You as my master? Have I gotten out of balance into the doing side of life in ‘possessing the land’ and left my goal of being? He so very quietly seemed to say, “Yes, I think so.”

“Then what does it mean that we will call You our husband? I understand the bride of Christ; I’ve always thought we will be that in heaven, but this seems to mean now, right? Does it mean I should ask You to be my husband rather than my master? . . . I know You have already done all You could ever do for me, so I do that. I’m asking you.”

No response.

Until . . . Valentine’s Day

I called a friend of mine, who worked in a neighboring town, to meet me for lunch. She had recently gone through a divorce and needed encouragement. My van was loaded for servicing racks that Friday afternoon close by her work.

My latest delivery of books contained a new one, Hugs for Encouragement. I arrived at the little café early to finish reading this book that I was going to give her. I’d started it and couldn’t put it down. I sat at a table where she would be sure to see me and continued to read.

Noon came and went and my friend did not show up. Oh well. I’m glad she forgot. I can finish this book. Without being able to pinpoint anything particular, all I can say is that the whole book convicted me of how I’d sought to “be encouraged” rather than to be an encourag-er. I made a vow right then to the Lord, “I will spend the rest of my life seeking to encourage, rather than to be encouraged.”

I thought, I guess I should have stayed home and invited my husband to have lunch with me since it’s Valentine’s Day.

“He’s right here!” The words were clear. Jesus is right . . . here . . . beside me!

“My arm is around your shoulders.” He spoke again. I could not move—afraid I would spoil the moment. I basked in his love unspeakable and full of glory.

After about an hour, I mustered the energy to leave. The cashier asked me, “Is everything all right?”

“Uh, hum,” is all I could say.

I had to forget the racks, drove home and parked in front of the house. I sat in the driver’s seat, still unable to move, my strength gone—until two hours later when the UPS man came with a delivery.

Almost unable to get out of the van, I could not speak to him, but managed to sign for the book. I got back in the van, still basking in the love of Jesus . . . until the school bus dropped off the children.

My adventure with Jesus was only beginning. My friend had been at the café and could not find me. Afterwards, these words kept going through my mind:

Will you be my Valentine? Love, Jesus.

I knew they were not for me alone.

Are Your Children Covered? Protect Them Supernaturally!

Do you feel certain, without a doubt, that your children are protected  from Satan’s evil tactics when they are away from home or even in your own house? There is only one foolproof way, and it is an intentional, proactive act with the blood of Jesus Christ with the prayer of faith–and it always brings a supernatural result as you will read here.

Satan is going after your children in all-out war! Are you prepared?

Satan is after your child and your grandchildren. If you haven’t yet heard, a new well-organized curriculum is in 50 of 60 public schools across Canada. It’s called SOGI (Sexual Orientation and Gender Identification). It celebrates alternative  lifestyles and that “gender is fluid. In other words, your gender is not dependent on what parts you were born with but rather what you feel like in the moment” (“Mommy, I Don’t Want to Be a Boy!” Christian Broadcasting Network News App, World, January 10, 2018).

Do you feel certain, without a doubt, that your children are protected from Satan’s evil tactics when they are away from home or even in your own house? There is only one foolproof way: Click to Tweet

SOGI starts in kindergarten. A five-year-old little girl came home, and said, “Mommy, I don’t want to be a boy!” When she played with so-called masculine toys, the teacher told her that she might be a boy inside. When her mother complained, she was called names because she was ‘behaving badly.’

Children’s rights are above parents’ rights. Eighty-five percent of teachers are compliant and pushing this agenda. If you think it can’t happen in America, think again; it is. It’s spreading, and who is hindering it?

In addition, sex trafficking is not a new thing, but are you aware just how easy it is for it to happen to your child or grandchild? A new book, Almost Gone, by John, Stephanie, and Mackenzie Baldwin shares how seventeen-year old Mackenzie surfed a social media site with a tagline, Talk to Strangers! and was seduced by a man in Kosovo. The site randomly connects people from around the world.  It gives them the opportunity to chat one-on-one using text or video.

Over fourteen months, she withdrew from friends and family,  and dressed more conservatively. She converted to Islam from a Christian family background, and made plans to fly to Kosovo to marry this Muslim man.

Mackenzie’s  parents had twenty-five days and one chance to save  her. It took  them  getting involved with the help of one of her friends and the FBI before she woke up and cut this relationship off. Families are reading together this Almost Gone book that reads like a mystery novel.

We don’t have to see our children get to the point of flying to Kosovo or being in a classroom with a teacher pushing an evil agenda we don’t agree with. There really is hope. There really is a God who wants to fight these battles for us, and will do so if we allow Him to.

But, it takes effort and time on our part with understanding of who God is to see it happen. The Bible says “my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests; because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children” (Hosea 4:6).

Allow me to share what happened supernaturally when we prayed the Hebrew names of God over our church, children and families one week, and the spiritual wisdom behind it. First, the spiritual wisdom:

When we pray the Hebrew names of God over our children, we are invoking the whole power of the God Head – the Trinity:  God the Father, the blood of Jesus Christ the Son, and Holy Spirit to work in their lives and to protect them.

Yahweh/Jehovah/LORD [Our Father] Builds a Fire Wall Around Our Children

A man named John prayed as he walked around his property. When a fire threatened to burn his house, the fire stopped at the line of his prayer path. He had created a controlled burn area with the presence of the Yahweh in his life, and the natural fire could go no further.

There are 417 places in the Old Testament of the Bible where Jehovah and fire are mentioned in the same sentence. We see Jehovah/Yahweh, as LORD in our English Bible. Our God, as a consuming fire (Deuteronomy 4:24), created a fire wall, just as a computer needs a fire wall to be protected.

Yeshua/Jesus Creates a Blood Line Around Our Children

John was also creating a blood line around his property. This signifies the blood Jesus shed for us to give us Life. The children of Israel were commanded to take the blood of a firstborn lamb and swipe it over the sides and tops of the door frames of their houses the night before Moses led them out of Egypt.

The LORD said, “The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.” That night all the firstborn sons of the Egyptians were slain, but the Israelites’ sons were untouched, and Pharaoh, after this last plague, allowed them to leave Egypt for the Promised Land.

This was the first Passover that pointed to the Lamb Jesus, the Father’s firstborn Son, who would bring salvation to the whole world through His shed blood that paid the price for sin.

The Holy Spirit Cleanses/Protects Our Children

The Old Testament of the Bible gives details of how the priests pronounced a diseased person clean after he was well. In this ceremonial cleansing, the priest used a scarlet yarn, blood and oil. Everything in the Old Testament points to Jesus Christ. The red yarn was symbolic of the trail of blood throughout history of the Jewish people who shed blood of firstborn animals, “for without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sin” (Hebrews 9:22).

Rather than using blood for cleansing today, post resurrection of Jesus, we use oil. The Bible instructs us when praying for the sick to anoint him with oil, and with the prayer of faith he will be made well (see James 5:14-15).

We can anoint anything with oil with a prayer of faith, just like the children of Israel used blood over their houses and like the priests sprinkled blood against the altar at the entrance of the tent of meeting (see Leviticus 17:6). Oil is symbolic of the Holy Spirit in the Bible.

How We Prayed Over Our Children, Families and Church Property

If the church shooting that killed twenty-six people from infants to the elderly in Sutherland Springs, Texas in 2017, did not wake up you or your church, nothing will. On January 7, 2018, we utilized a  JOSHUA-JERICHO PRAYER-WALKING GUIDEto pray during one week.

Each day, beginning on Monday and ending on Saturday, we prayed each day two of twelve Hebrew names of God over our families and church while at home. We also anointed the entrances to our houses.

On Sunday the 14th, we prayed all twelve Hebrew names of God as we walked around the church, and the pastor anointed the entrance of the ‘tent of meeting’ and other doors as we, the kingdom of priests, watched and walked by. A couple people sounded the shofar, and we shouted in praise to the LORD.

Something Happened on the 3rd Day of Our 7-Day Prayer Walk

During the week, Wednesday morning, I meditated on Joshua 5. This was 40 years after the children of Israel left Egypt and they had just observed the Passover as they did that night before leaving. It was the 14th day of their New Year, just as they had done every year on the 14th day of each new year. Knowing Sunday would be the 14th day, confirmed to me that the LORD was in our midst and truly guiding us.

This is the chapter after Joshua and the children of Israel already crossed Jordan River to enter the Promised Land and before they marched around Jericho seven times, armed and ready for battle. They witnessed the LORD bring down the wall, so they could go in and take the city. On the evening of the 14th day, Joshua saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua went up to him and asked, “Are you for us or for our enemies?”

“Neither,” he replied, “but as commander of the army of the LORD I have now come.” It’s like the LORD was saying, “I will take it from here. Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s. . . . You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions, stand firm and see the deliverance the LORD will give you” (2 Chronicles 20:15, 17).

The Commander of the Army of the LORD of hosts Showed Up

Yellow lillies with Text: Because we are Jehovah Sabaoth Lord hosts : we are one mature military bride

As I tried to picture the commander of the army of the LORD, I knew His Hebrew name was Jehovah- Sabaoth, the Lord of hosts, Supreme Commander of the universe and our Bridegroom. This Hebrew character name of God has a dual meaning: a hard side and a soft side. The commander of army of the LORD in the book of Joshua was the Angel of the LORD Jesus Christ who is our soon coming King and Bridegroom of His mature, military Bride.

Before I knew anything was happening, my head lifted from my Bible as I saw a huge flash of white and gold shoot up into the air above our church property. I saw Jesus’ sword cut into the ground at the property line a few yards, then it was like: swoosh all the way around, and He was gone. The impression I heard was, “I’ll take care of that blood line and fire wall for you. Thank you for believing.”

We had not yet prayed day five that called upon the name of Jehovah-Sabaoth, but all these Hebrew character names are the same and ONE and ONLY true GOD of the universe: the Trinity – Father, Son and Holy Spirit. What an amazing God we serve!

  1. GET the CBN NEWS App to know what truthfully is happening here and around the world.

2. ORDER  HERE > the Almost Gone book and read this riveting book as a family. Talk about these things with your children so they will be comfortable asking you questions. Talk with them. When our children were teenagers they said, “Parents don’t talk with their children. They feel all alone.” Please don’t let that parent be you.

3. PRINT OUT HERE > JOSHUA-JERICHO PRAYER-WALKING GUIDE and pray them over your children at home – all at once or over one week. Repeat periodically. Call upon God’s Hebrew names. He likes His name just as you do, and He responds. Don’t worry about not saying it correctly. As a parent loves to hear his child attempt to say ‘dada’ or ‘mama,’ so does our heavenly Father.

4. ANOINT your house and children’s room entrances with oil and a prayer of faith simply as, “I apply the blood of Jesus Christ over ______, so they are covered and protected in spirit, soul and body with the blood of Jesus  as they come and go.” Above all, ask God to guide you and He will.

What Should We Learn with Lack of Protection in Church Shootings?

With massacres of Christians on the rise, especially as they are gathered together in their churches, there is an answer. Lack of protection doesn’t have to happen to you and me.

Christians are given the powerful promise of protection of El Shaddai, the Most High God Almighty, in Psalm 91:1: “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand]” (Amplified).

As with any promise of God, it is only as good as we believe it and utilize it in faith. Notice it says ‘dwell’ in the secret place. The blessing of protection is not automatic. Faith without works is dead; or without action on the promise, the promise is dead.

GOD’S Protection Comes In Two Forms: Naturally & Supernaturally

Do the Joshua-Jericho Prayer-Walk for Peace, Protection and Victory

Protection Naturally

Meshing the stories in Luke 22, Matthew 26 and John 18, Jesus shows us this reality of protection from Him which comes in two forms. He had just told Peter that Satan had asked to sift him as wheat, but Jesus prayed that his faith would not fail. Verse 35 of Luke 22 begins with Jesus asking the disciples if they lacked anything when He sent them out without a purse, bag or sandals. They replied, “Nothing.”

He said to them, “BUT NOW, if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one. . . .” He was concerned about their own protection. As He was arrested, He said to the soldiers, “If you are looking for me, then let these men go.”

The disciples said, “See, Lord, here are two swords.”

“That is enough,” Jesus replied.

This takes place at the midnight hour immediately before Jesus is arrested. As the soldiers come for Jesus, Peter, who had a sword, drew it and cut off the ear of one of them. Jesus restored the ear of the soldier and responds by saying something that may seem contradictory, “All who draw the sword will die by the sword.”

Jesus meant that Peter drew the sword first without any physical threat to himself.  In other words, “not to live by the sword.” Peter was impulsive. At the darkest hour, Jesus was saying, “Be prepared naturally.”

Protection Supernaturally

The contrast Jesus made in the above passage between natural and supernatural was that the disciples were supernaturally protected and provided for as they went out in obedience to His command.

Probably the most profound example of supernatural protection is at the first Passover in the Exodus. The children of Israel were supernaturally protected and provided for as they were delivered out of Egypt in accordance to the Lord’s command.

The Lord’s command was to take the blood of a first-born lamb, without defect, and swipe it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of their houses. In the last of the ten plagues to hit Egypt, their first-born was spared while those of the Egyptians were slaughtered by the destroyer–at midnight.

Likewise, we are protected supernaturally with the Blood of Jesus.
We can do the same thing the children of Israel did TODAY by swiping–or applying, pleading–the Blood of Jesus. He was slain as the first-born Lamb of God Almighty, who had no defect.

HOW do we apply the Blood of Jesus?

WHAT ARE WE TO LEARN WITH LACK OF PROTECTIONA  certain man applied the Blood of Jesus by prayer walking his property. He prayed regularly as he walked around his house. When a fire threatened his property, it stopped right at the line he drew with his feet in prayer. It’s like he created a controlled burn with the fire of the LORD the width of his body, so that when the fire reached that place, there was nothing to burn.  It could go no further.

Other examples of supernatural victory

Dr. Billye Brim wrote a book, The Blood and the Glory,  to reveal how the power of the blood of Jesus and the glory of God fit together. It draws from the experiences of revivals involving great leaders of faith from the past to rekindle the power of the blood of Jesus in the Church today. Much was made of the blood of Jesus during these revivals.

She shares stories of supernatural protection as Christians applied the blood of Jesus with Divine warning before the San Francisco earthquake in 1906.  However, here’s one from  Pastor Brenda Steen. In 1971, she learned about the power in the Blood and preached it to her and her husband’s congregation.

The Lord told her one Sunday night to make much of the Blood. A powerful earthquake awoke her at 4:31 a.m. a few hours later as she heard her words from the night before, I don’t care if we do live in Southern California. I don’t care if my house is on top of a fault line; my house will not be destroyed!

As it turned out, the Steen’s house had only one broken vase and a few cosmetic hairline cracks. Houses on either side lost much and suffered structural damage. Books were still on the shelves at the church. Members in the congregation heard Brenda’s voice with the words she spoke as the quake hit, and  they were protected as well.

Do the Joshua-Jericho prayer walk for peace, protection and victory

Protection in name of the LordOur church, as a congregation, is planning to pray the JOSHUA-JERICHO PRAYER-WALKING GUIDE around our property. It is a seven-day guide of twelve Hebrew names of God divided into six days. The seventh-day suggestion is to pray all twelve names with praise.

At the first Passover in Egypt, the LORD directed Moses to have the people come together on the first day to hold a sacred assembly and another one on the seventh–throughout all generations. The Passover is seven days. The walk around Jericho took seven days.

We are handing out the prayer guides to the whole congregation on a Sunday, having them pray the first six days at home as they apply the Blood over their homes; then, come back the next Sunday to prayer walk the property and pray all twelve Hebrew names of God.

The children of Israel experienced the Lord in a supernatural way – with natural provision. They were armed and ready for battle as they entered the Promised Land. Jericho’s walls fell supernaturally on the seventh day that they marched around the city. In the end, the people shouted at the sound of the trumpets, and the walls collapsed, so every man charged straight in, and took the city.
